Wallis and Futuna
Wallis and Futuna Islands, possession of France, switches on bunch of islands Uollis, island Futuna and island Alofi in the western part of Pacific ocean. A possession total area 274 sq. km, the population - 14 thousand persons, from them on islands Uollis lives 8 thousand persons. The basic population - Polynesians. An official language - French, the majority of believers - roman catholics. The administrative centre - the Mat-utu with the population about thousand persons is had on (island Uollis) island Uvea.
The Island Futuna has been open by Europeans in 1616, islands Uollis - in 1767. With 1888 of Wallis and Futuna Islands have qualifid as protectorate of France, in July, 1961 they have gained the status of overseas terrain of France. The chief manager quoted as the French government is the maximum official. The population chooses Territorial assembly which plays an advisory body role at the chief manager. Islands are presented in parliament of France by one senator and one deputy of National meeting.
The Population is engaged in coconut palm cultivation, effecting of a copra and fishery. The basic port of islands - the Mat-utu, on island Uvea is had the international airport. In the capacity of monetary unit the franc of the French offices in Pacific ocean (franc KFP) is used.
