Norfolk (Norfolk), possession of Australia in Pacific ocean northward from New Zealand, consists of vulcanic island (altitude to 316 ) the square 34,5 sq. km. On island live 1,9 thousand persons (1993), natives from Pitcairn island and more serotinal migrants from Australia and New Zealand. An official language - English. An administrative centre - the Kingston valve.
The Island has been open by English seafarer James Cook in 1774. Authorities of the Great Britain used Norfolk as a place of the link of convicts with 1788 for 1813 and with 1825 for 1855. Since 1844 the island was a part of the English colony Tasmania. Possession of Australia Norfolk became since 1913. Imperious authorities on island belong to the Australian manager. Since 1957 at the manager the advisory body - island Advice, as a part of eight members selected on two year has been created. In 1979 intrinsic self-management has been injected: the Legislative assembly from 9 members selected for three years is created.
