The Republic Costa Rica Monetary unit - kolon (=100 sentimo) has been injected into the circulation in 1896 instead of going earlier here peso.

Today in circulation in Costa Rica there are notes of denomination - 50 (green), 100 (grey-blue), 500 (orange), 1000 (red) and 5000 (dark blue) kolonov.

The Costa Rican currency does not appear in the list of key world monetary systems. However it is quite converted, resistant to against the dollar the USA currency.

Volplaning a trip to Costa Rica, it is recommended to take with itself money, both cash, and traveller's cheques and charge cards, US dollars. In Costa Rica liberal currency rules act: importation and outflow of foreign exchange in reasonable limits is not restricted.
