Mahdia
Mahdia (al-Mahdia) - a small city (nearby 26 thousand inhabitants) and fishing port at coast of the African cape. It is a city with stormy past. It has gained the name in 10 century in honour of founder Al-Mahdi which became the ancestor of dynasty Fatimidov, and Mahdija some time was capital of their kingdom. In 11 century a city has passed to berberskoj dynasties, in 12 century have been destroyed by the Sicilian Normans and has lost the significance. In 16 century has departed to Ottomansky Turkey. Ancient walls of a city masked the furious pirates directing horror on the vessels of christians. Spaniards, struggling with pirates, have destroyed the strengthenings attaining a thickness 10 m. the Only thing that was saved from them - urban gate of the Scythian an ale-kahla (dark gate). From epoch Fatimidov the Big mosque rebuilt in 20  was saved; century On cape there is strong hold Bordzh-Mahdija builted by Turks in 16 century
Walk on silent solar streets of a city promises many sweet minutes. From parkway on northern slope of a hill it is possible to get on the African cape from which the indelible view of the sea is discovered.
On beaches Mahdii there are conditions for a scuba diving, surfing, holdings by riding.
