Guiana

In a northeast part of the South America, almost at the equator, is overseas department of France - Guiana. The population - nearby 128  thousand persons. The maximum extent of the country from coast deep into to southern boundary line compounds nearby 400  km. Administration managerial control is carried out by the prefect who is nominated as the French government. In parliament Guiana is presented France by one deputy and one senator. An administrative centre and main seaport of the country - Cayenne (nearby 42  thousand inhabitants) - it is had on island near to the Atlantic coast.

The First French colonists have lodged in terrain of Guiana in 1604. Within the next centuries of the country Dutches and Englishmen repeatedly tried to take possession. The authority of France has definitively affirmed in 1817  to year. Second half XIX centuries for the French Guiana was marked by three important events: slavery cancellation, metamorphosis of the country into a place of penal servitude and discovering of a large gold field.

Nowadays the most numerous national group of Guiana - Creoles (more 50  population %), then Europeans (in the core Frenchmen), Indians, Negroes and Indians follow.

A country Climate subequatorial hot and wet. Monthly average temperatures fluctuate between 25 and 28  °C. A main natural resource of Guiana - wood which occupies 94  terrain %. Woods number to 500 aspects of arbours among which there are such fine woods as mahogany, pink, tikovoe, muscat, etc.

A population Chief business - farming agriculture. The sugarcane, bananas, citrous are cultivated. The special significance has the space-rocket centre of France - the Hen.
