Federated States of Micronesia

Federal states Micronesia (Federative States of Micronesia), the state in the western part of Pacific ocean, occupies central both east part of Carolines and atoll Kapingamargagi. The state Total area compounds 701,4  sq. km, occupy it from above 103  thousand persons (1993), mainly Micronesias of various ethnic groups (the largest - truktsy, on islands Truk). The majority of believers - christians (protenstants and roman catholics). The Official language - English. Capital - Palikir (on island Ponpei). The federation consists of four states Kosrae, ponpei, Truk and JAp.

Micronesia has the status of freely affiliated state to the USA . The Head of the state and the governments - the president. A legislature - the unicameral National Congress which elects the president.

The largest islands of Micronesia of a vulcanic parentage (altitude to 791 , are surrounded by coral reefs. A climate equatorial and subequatorial. From the seventeenth century Carolines belonged to Spain . In 1898 Spain has sold them to Germany . In 1914 islands have been captureed by Japan , and during the Second World War are occupied by troops of the USA, which steels to operate them under the United Nations mandate. To 1978 Carolines have gained the status of terrain freely associated from the USA. In 1979 the constitution of Federal states of Micronesia has been accepted.

The Basis of economy of Micronesia - fishery, copra effecting, vegetable growing. On islands breed large horned stock, pigs, goats. For development of the fishing zone Micronesia co-operates with the USA, Australia, Japan, South Korea. Annually Micronesia attend 25  thousand tourists in the core from Australia and Japan. The length of the covered with asphalt highways compounds 226  km. Export half consists of a copra, export also pepper, fish, craft items, coconut oil. The basic foreign trade partners - the USA, Japan. Micronesia gains significant monetary grants from the USA and in the capacity of monetary unit uses the American dollar.
