Eastern Samoa

East (American) samoa, possession the USA in a southern part of Pacific ocean, approximately in 2,5  thousand in km on the northeast from New Zealand. Occupies east part of archipelago Samoa and consists of seven islands: Aunuu (Aunu " u), Ofu (Ofu), Olosega (Olosega), Rose-trees (Rose), Suejns (Swain "s), Tau (Tau), and Tutuila (Tutuila). Possession is subdivided into three administrative divisions, a total area 199  sq. km. The population of Eastern Samoa compounds 51  one thousand person (1993). Official but islands English, but the majority of the population speaks tongue on samoanskom tongue. More than half of believers protenstants, 20 % - roman catholics. The administrative centre - Pago Pago with the population of three thousand persons is had on island Tutuila.

According to the constitution of 1967 the executive power on islands belongs to the governor who since 1976 is chosen by the population for a period of four years. The legislature - fono consists of the senate and the House of Representatives. In senate composition aboriginal leaders (matai) for a period of four years can be selected only. The House of Representatives is chosen by universal suffrage for two years. The governor has the right to put a veto for solutions fono. Eastern Samoa has the deputy in the House of Representatives of the congress of the USA (but ex rights voices). In 1948 local residents have acquired the right to form fono - the legislature. Till 1951 of island were in management fleet of the USA which have built large naval baseline and the ship-repair factories in Pago Pago. Since 1951 management by affairs of Eastern Samoa has passed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USA.

The Economy of Eastern Samoa is tied rigidly up to the USA and in the core bases on a fishery.
