Christmas island (Christmas Island) possession Australia, occupies island with the square 156  sq. km (altitude to 356 ) in east part of Indian ocean. On island live 1,3  thousand persons, mainly the Chinese and Malayan parentage. An official language - English.

The Island has been open in 1615. the Great Britain declared its possession in 1888. Then on Christmas island the deposit of phosphate has been open also there were first settlers. Since 1958 the island has passed under control of Australia. Imperious authorities on island are carried out by the Australian manager at whom Consultative advice acts. An economy basis - extraction of phosphate.
