Bahamas

the Commonwealth of the Bahamas is had on the Bahama archipelago, in the western part of Atlantic ocean in West Indies, jugo-to the east peninsulas Florida. Numbers nearby 700  islands, from which only 30  are dwelt. The square - 13,9  thousand sq. km. A population - 266  thousand persons. Capital - a city of Nassau (172  thousand) - is had on island New Providence. Nominally the head of the state is the queen the Great Britain, presented by the governor-general. An official language - English.

One of east islands of the archipelago, the San Salvador named by Spaniards, became the first land open by expedition of Columbus in 1492 in New Light. The destiny of aboriginal Indians of Arawaks is tragic - Spaniards have exported them to Cuba and Haiti. Till 1629 when islands became colony of England, they remained unplanted. In 1973 the Bahamas have gained independence. Here naval baselines the USA are had.

In 1946 on the Bahamas the tourist boom which has especially gained in strength in the late fifties has begun. The Bahamas became a winter resort of the USA and Europe. Here large hotels and a casino are builted. Involved with the tax privileges, many companies have based here offices and jars. In the natural attitude the Bahamas differ a flat landform, extensive shoal waters - jars near the coast, representing excellent beaches. A climate to Bugs tropical, passatnyj, with the rainy season from May till October. Average temperatures of January 20 - 23  °C, July - nearby 28  °C. Savannahs predominate or of a brushwood of prickly bushes. It is a lot of pine forests. Island Grand Bahama often name New Riviera because of its appeal to tourists.
