Anguilla

Anguilla - possession the Great Britain in West Indies, is had on islands Anguillas (Anguilla) and the Sombrero, in northern part of Lesser Antilles. The total area of islands compounds 96  sq. km, the population - 9  thousand persons (1993). A possession Administrative centre - Valli (595 persons in 1992). The Official language - English, the majority of believers Englishmen and methodists.

According to own constitution accepted in 1982, Anguilla uses intrinsic self-management. English governor B. Kanti supervises over police and civil services of island. In its management there are foreign policy and defence questions. The governor is the president of chamber of meeting and Executive advice of Anguilla. The meeting chamber - a legislature of islands, a part of its composition is selected the population. Executive advice executes the governmental functions.

Anguilla has been open by Christopher Columbus in 1493. The first settlement on island was based in 1631 by Dutches. But Englishmen, natives from the next islands Sent-Kits and Nevis colonized island in the middle of the seventeenth century. In February, 1969 Anguilla has unilaterally intoned independence. The authority of the Great Britain has been rebuilt in March of the same year, the English troops which have jolted on island. In 1976 intrinsic self-management has been granted Anguilla.
