Short general data on Czechia

As the independent state the Czech Republic has appeared on January, 1st, 1993 as a result of separation of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republics. Historically in Czechia there were two ranges - Bohemia and Moravia. The basic part of Czechia refers to to Bohemia, and Moravian lands occupy the east (on boundary line with Slovakia) and the country southeast. Country capital - an ancient city Prague. Traditionally Czechia has close connections with Austria and Germany.

The Czech Republic - practically an one-nation state. From almost 11-million population of the country 94 % - Czechs. In cities lives almost 70 % of all inhabitants. Prominent feature of the country is extremely high density of settlements and predominance of small settlements with quite urban aspect of a building though also inhabitants in him can be all one-two thousand and even less. The majority of cities of the country were formed in the Middle Ages and till now save a historical nucleus that gives them the big originality.

Tongue in the country - Czech. It is one of tongues of West slavonic bunch. The spoken language is divided into three bunches of dialects: Czech, sredne - and East Moravian. In a literary language which was revived only in the end of XVIII century on the basis of a written language of XVI century reformed by John Hus, to these the considerable quantity of archaisms is saved.

The Church plays life of Czechs enough great value. The majority of believers belong to Catholic church. There are protenstants and the supporters, abjointed from Vatican in 1920 of the Czech reformatory church.
