Leipzig
Second-large after Berlin the city of the former GDR numbers 556 thousand inhabitants. The city is known for the fairs, including the book. Leipzig has gained the city status in 1165 to year from margrave Otto Mejsensky. In XVI century the privilege is granted a city to spend fairs. In XVII-XVIII centuries the city became the economic centre, capital of book printing and musical life of Germany. At the university of Leipzig based in 1409 to year, studied Goethe, Lessing, Klopshtok. Johann Sebastian Bach some time was its conductor.
In the Museum of the fine arts jobs of old masters - Kranaha, Dutch and Italian artists XV-XVI of centuries are exhibited. The Egyptian museum of the Leipzig university contains one of the best European collections of art of Egypt and deeds of an epoch of pharaons. Church Tomaskirhe - the most known in a city. I.S.Bach remains Here repose. In this church baptised Riharda Wagner and Charles Libknehta (godfathers last were Marx and Engels).
