Croatia

Croatia is had at northeast coast of Adriatic sea and bounds with Hungary, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The country square compounds 56,5   thousand sq. km ², the population - 4,8  million persons. Capital of Croatia - Zagreb.

Croatia is an independent state since 1991, before it was one of republics in composition Yugoslavia. East regions of the country occupied mainly by Serbs (Serbian Kraina) have refused to pass in submission to the government of independent Croatia that has led to the military conflict. Now the government of Zagreb controls almost all terrain of the country, except for Slavonia and Mutton - small buffer region on boundary line with Yugoslavia, in urban district Vukovar which is under the international control.

The Croats amounting the bulk of the population, speak in Serbo-Croatian tongue. It is a state language of Croatia. On traditional confession Croats - roman catholics.

East part of Croatia represents the hilly plain recut by valleys of the rivers Savas and Drava. In the middle and in the west of the country sharply decomposed Dinarsky uplands in altitude to 1831  place; the m, here is widely educed a karst (funnels, caves, etc. forms of the landform combined by chalkstones). The narrow strip of mountainous coast of Adriatic sea (Dalmatia) is cut up by numerous gulfs. The chain of picturesque islands alongshore lasts.

The Climate in intrinsic parts of Croatia moderated, continental, at coast - Mediterranean. Mounts are covered by beech family, oak and mixed forests, karstic regions represent woodless waste grounds, and coast-wise last a tangle of the Mediterranean bushes.

The Largest cities of Croatia - Zagreb, Split, Rijeka. Their architecture is very diverse. The building of trading cities of Dalmatia (Split, Zadar) developed under the influence a round arched gothic, many cities of northern Croatia have saved gothic shape. Building of numerous Croatian locks and strong holds (Varazhdin, Karlovac) refer to to XV-XVIII to centuries.

World famous resorts are concentrated To coast and islands of Croatia. Largest of them - Dubrovnik and Opatija.
